Yes there are limiters inside the loudspeakers and they are designed to protect the drivers from breaking due to excessively high sound levels and long-term voice coil heating. They cannot be changed or disabled. This is normal in active studio monitors.
The front panel LED will show when the limiter is active. If it flashes in time with the music it is due to peaks in the program material, so turn down the input signal level. If protection is shown for a longer time, it is due to over-heating, so turn down the input signal until the loudspeaker has cooled down. If you experience a lot of protection events, the loudspeaker should be changed for a larger model and/or a subwoofer added.
